Don’t be fooled by the calm of uncharted waters. It can be quite confusing for bloggers and webbies to know if it’s okay to post an image of someone else’s work. A few years back, I found a graphic poster on Mockingbird which made it all perfectly picture clear . . . just follow the flow, throw in a dash of common courtesy and you’re in like Flynn. As a photographer, I take great pride in knowing that my work is automatically copyright protected the minute I create the image. I don’t mind if you want to use one of my photos on your blog. Indeed, I would love that! But please, like the poster says, ask permission and credit the photographer or artist with their full name and original source. Link it if you love it! In keeping, let me say that this graphic poster is brought to you by Pia Jane Bijkerk and Erin Loechner of Design for Mankind. The hand lettered font was created by Yvette van Boven. You can order your own poster in a variety of sizes and colors at Mammoth and Company. (Cover photo: “Calm Waters” © Yvonne Cornell 2012)
