Balmy Alley in the Mission District of San Francisco boasts a decades-long history of some of the city’s best and most concentrated urban wall art. The murals began as an artistic expression of anger over human rights and political abuses in Central America. Today the alley contains a variety of murals from human rights to local gentrification and Hurricane Katrina. Most remain deeply rooted in Latino culture with new ones being painted all the time. Balmy Alley is a pleasant reminder that truly fabulous art is available to see and touch for free, and photograph without restriction.
