A passalong plant is defined as one that can be easily propagated and given away. The Angel’s Trumpet is one such perfect passalong plant because a cut stalk quickly forms roots in a jar of water or in potting soil. The phrase “pay it forward” describes the act of a beneficiary of a good deed repaying it to another instead of back to the original benefactor. The concept of paying it forward is as old as the culture of passalong plants. Together, they remind us we do not inhabit our successes alone; it is a shared journey and often our leg ups come from these unsuspecting gifts that live on past the generosity of the initial giving.
