The fruits of the Goldenrain Tree, Koelreuteria paniculata. Native to Japan, China and Korea. Bright yellow flowers appear in early summer with falling blossoms that resemble a golden rain and form a golden blanket under the tree. The flowers give way to seed filled fruit pods which dry on the tree as papery capsules shaped like Chinese lanterns.
