I experience an abundance of natural life while on a run in the nearby hills. Fresh surprises continually appear along my routine loop. One afternoon, I might see a hawk soar close overhead and land in a nearby tree top. On the following evening, I might see a jack rabbit and a deer grazing together in the same grassy plot. This particular day, a stack of logs from a freshly cut tree (a stone pine) appeared on a private property next to my regular route. The delicious smell of pine sap was pervasive, so there was no need to linger because the scent would accompany me long after my passage. As such, I might not have stopped had it not been for the siting of the ‘sand dollar’ — a perfectly shaped inland sand dollar! Do you see it there in the back? Ah yes… this meets my criteria for a perfect day’s run.
