Hanging Lace lichen and Oak Moss lichen (tufted to left of “listen”) and the Common Greenshield lichen (under “listen”) are all natural born survivors. Lichen hides a secret identity because it is not a single organism, but rather a partnership between a fungus and an alga. It is an “air plant” which lives on another plant while gathering its water and nutrients from the air and rain. Survival is a symbiotic experience.
